Integrative Seminar 3_13th August 2019_ Malvika Mahidhar

Our class was all about chapter 1 of the book metamorphosis and its author Franz Kafka. In the beginning faculty told us lot of things about the author. Franz Kafka was born in 1883. He belongs to a middle class family who lived in Prague. He had very complicated relationship with his father. Once he wrote letter of 60 pages to his father and asked his mother to give it to the father, but he was also afraid that after reading the letter his father will be sad or hurt. Later it’s turned out that his mother never gave the letter to him. Beside a writer Franz Kafka was also a lawyer. He writes art and literature. In total he wrote 3 books which was letter kind of thing for his fiancee, girlfriend and his family. He had many relationships. Franz Kafka when turned into jew he became religious.

After the introduction of author faculty told us the similarities between life of the author and the story of the metamorphosis which was middle class family and complicated relationship with father. Then we discussed the chapter 1.

One morning upon waking from an dream Gregor finds himself turned into a giant insect. As he lay on his back, his thin legs struggling in the way up turned bugs do he wonders what has happened. He glances around his room, and find that everything as he had left it. His cloth samples were spread around the room, the picture that he had only recently cut out of a magazine and framed was there. But gregor has unquestionably become a bug. He attempts to go back to sleep, but his insect body prevents them. He begins to feel strained from the effort and stops.
