We visited Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum on 19th September 2019. Visit to the museum is the part of the next project of Integrative seminar and studio. It is the oldest museum in Mumbai established in 1855 by Lord Elphinstone. In 2016, the museum received the international quality crown award in the gold category for quality, innovation and customer satisfaction. We attended a presentation in which all the history of museum and Mumbai was included. We saw some pictures of the old museum and then saw the recent pictures of the museum. They told us how they made changes in the museum and told us to see and compare both pictures. After that the presentation of the maps were done. They asked us to guess that which area is where, like where is colaba, bandra etc. After that they told us that what are the different cultures and clothing of the people in Mumbai and the history of Mumbai. There were clay models, silver and copper ware and costumes, old photographs of Mumbai and 17th century manuscript etc.
After the presentation part we visited the museum and we were asked us to click pictures of the museum so we roam around and click some pictures of the museum. Here are some pictures of the museum.
So in today’s class of seminar and studio our faculty discussed about the museum. They asked us the feedback of our visit to the museum. After discussing about the museum, faculty discussed about the aspects of the Mumbai and also some other places like Jaipur, Nagpur Ahmedabad etc. In the seminar class, faculty asked us to take one place we visited other than our hometown and Mumbai and then write the 5 aspects of that place in three categories each which were personal, cliche and unique. In the studio class, faculty gave us some general aspects of Mumbai and told us to design 3-5 logo of any aspects in the abstract form in 4X4 inches square. Some of the aspects of Mumbai were crime, films, commerce, currency, architecture, fashion etc.
