In the previous class faculty made groups in which there are 5 students in each group after that she gave 5 chapters to each group from the book ‘the invisible cities’. We were asked to read all those chapters and come for this lecture. Basically in this class we discussed about all chapters one by one.
My chapters are Dorothea, Perinthia, Octavia, Pyrrha and Zirma. But first we discussed about the book as a whole. So basically invisible Cities is a novel that tells the story of a bored emperor, Kublai Khan, who asks the Marco Polo to travel his kingdom and bring back tales of his what he sees and finds. Polo describes 55 different cities. Each city is unique while being very similar to the others. Polo imbues each city with his own perceptions and asks the emperor to do the same. He says that since they are sitting in the garden enjoying a nice breeze, the emperor will understand a description of a city in which he sat outside and enjoyed a nice breeze. In this way he can make the city come to life for the emperor, even if the city does not exist. Polo tells poetry into his verse and provides a different way of looking at the cities. He gives the cities life and literally describes them as beings. Many times he will refer to a city as though it were a woman.
